Required Application Materials for all Ranks - 

• Teaching statement which should describe teaching philosophy, experience in teaching across programs and settings (i.e., didactic and clinical)
• Research statement which should include a description of three to five peer-reviewed publications, with an emphasis on the most recent and representative
• Service statement which should focus on contributions in academic, professional and community areas as is relevant.

The University of Michigan School of Nursing seeks applications from outstanding nurse scientists and interdisciplinary scholars whose research advances health and healthcare across the lifespan. We welcome candidates at all stages of their careers, from emerging scholars with strong potential for sustained research success to established leaders with nationally or internationally recognized programs of research.  Applicants will be considered for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor based on experience, evidence of scholarly accomplishments, and expected future impact.

Particular areas of interest in the UMSN include, but are not limited to, pediatric and family health; women's health; chronic disease prevention and management; digital health innovations; AI in health; and interventions that improve health outcomes for individuals, families, and communities. Candidates should demonstrate a record of research productivity and the potential to contribute meaningfully to the UMSN's mission of advancing health for all through science, education, mentorship, leadership, and service.

Required Qualifications*

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS FOR ALL RANKS

• PhD in nursing or highly related field.
• For nursing PhD's, a current MI nursing license is required or eligibility for a nursing license in the State of Michigan.
• Prior to start date must be in compliance with all health requirements including standard precautions such as Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, orientations, relevant licenses/certifications, policies and procedures both internal and external to the University for your assigned classroom(s), and/or clinical site(s), and/or research site(s).
• Record of first-author, indexed, peer-reviewed publications, and presentations.
• Demonstrate excellent communication, networking and relationship-building skills.
• Demonstrated competence in scholarly activity.
• Evidence of teaching and mentoring ability.

Additional Qualifications for the rank of Associate Professor -

• Record of excellence in teaching.
• Distinguished record of scholarly attainment in the realm of scientific investigation, publication, and utilization of research findings in teaching, research, and service.
• A reputation among colleagues for outstanding achievements and recognized contributions in their field of expertise.
• An admirable record of academic, professional and community service.

Additional Qualifications for the rank of Professor -

• Sustained record of excellence in teaching including experience with advanced students;
• Sustained and growing record of scholarly eminence, which advances the frontier of knowledge;
• A reputation among the candidate's colleagues and peers throughout the nation and preferably internationally for outstanding and continuing achievements in their field of expertise.
• A reputation, supported by documented external evaluation, which recognizes the presence of leadership and the quality of research activities, publications, and contributions to the profession in comparison with other professors.
• A continuing record of recognized accomplishments in academic, professional and community service.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Direct nursing practice experience (e.g., RN, APRN) in clinical settings (e.g., hospital, community-based)
• Experience to teach students in basic sciences courses (e.g., microbiology, pharmacology, pathophysiology)
