Who We Are

The Garner Laboratory is an interdisciplinary research group working at the interface of chemical biology, medicinal chemistry, and molecular and cellular biology to develop new approaches for early-stage drug discovery with a primary focus on validating new therapeutic targets in RNA biology. Additional information about the group can be found on our website:   https://www.garnerlaboratory.com/

Job Summary

The Garner Laboratory in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, College of Pharmacy, at the University of Michigan is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow to contribute to our NIH-funded efforts aimed at developing approaches for targeting therapeutically-relevant RNA-protein interactions. Successful candidates will have a proven track record of publishing in high impact journals, experience in chemical biology, biochemistry or molecular/cellular biology, excellent communication skills, and demonstrated success in working as a member of a team. An emphasis will be placed on candidates who have demonstrated themselves to be highly motivated in addition to creative problem solvers in their research area. Candidates with prior research experience in RNA biology, RNA biochemistry, RNA sequencing, and/or cell-based assay development are highly desired.

Responsibilities*

This postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for developing and performing cellular assays to discover small molecule modulators of RNA-protein interactions and characterizing compound activity in biochemical, biophysical, and cellular assays. Specific expectations include strong research skills, a willingness to learn new biological techniques necessary for biological characterization of hit molecules in cells, an ability to keep an appropriate laboratory notebook with sufficient detail for repetition of experiments, active participation in laboratory meetings, and good communication skills, both in meetings and through manuscripts and publications describing the research to be performed.

Required Qualifications*

PhD in medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, biological chemistry, or chemistry.

Desired Qualifications*

Experience in RNA biology, RNA biochemistry, RNA sequencing, and/or cell-based assays.
