Job Summary

The Temporary Anatomical Laboratory Assistant will provide essential operational support for the anatomical laboratories during the temporary absence of our Anatomical Preparator.

This position will assist with the safe, respectful, and appropriate maintenance and movement of anatomical donors and will support the day-to-day operation and upkeep of the teaching laboratories.  The Temporary Anatomical Laboratory Assistant will work closely with Anatomical Donations staff, program coordinators, and faculty.

Responsibilities*

  • Assisting with the maintenance and care of anatomical donors used in educational programs.
  • Safely moving donor tables and anatomical donors within the laboratory and associated facilities.
  • Assisting program coordinators with laboratory setup, maintenance, and breakdown for anatomy teaching activities.
  • Cleaning and maintaining laboratory floors and work areas.
  • Assisting with routine laboratory organization and other operational tasks necessary to maintain a safe, clean, and functional anatomical teaching environment.
  • Following established procedures related to donor dignity, occupational safety, infection control, and laboratory operations.

Required Qualifications*

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism, discretion, and respect when working with anatomical donors.
  • Ability to work approximately 15 hours per week, during weekday morning hours between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and safely push, pull, and maneuver donor tables and equipment weighing up to approximately 250 pounds, with appropriate assistance and equipment when needed.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local requirements related to anatomical donation and the handling of human remains.
  • Funeral Director license or previous experience in funeral service, mortuary science, anatomical donation, or a related field.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Work Schedule

7:00 - 11:00 am, Monday through Thursday

15-20 hours per week

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
