Job Summary

The laboratory of Dr. Celina Kleer in the University of Michigan Department of Pathology is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research fellow to investigate the cellular and molecular mechanisms of breast cancer invasion and metastasis, with particular emphasis on the tumor microenvironment. The research will focus on EZH2 signaling and interactions among tumor, stromal, and immune cells.

Responsibilities*

  • Design, conduct, analyze, and troubleshoot independent studies of EZH2 and other related protein signaling in breast cancer invasion, metastasis, and the tumor microenvironment.

  • Perform cellular and molecular biology experiments and studies of the stroma and immune microenvironment 

  • Conduct mouse mammary tumor and metastasis studies and implement high-throughput spatial methods.

  • Review relevant literature, maintain accurate records, interpret findings, and present results.

  • Prepare abstracts, manuscripts, presentations, and contributions to grant applications.

  • Collaborate with laboratory members and mentor undergraduate researchers.

  • Support laboratory operations, including protocol development, reagent ordering, and research compliance.

Required Qualifications*

  • Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in cancer biology, cell biology, molecular biology, immunology, pathology, or a related field by the start date.

  • Proficiency in mammalian cell culture and standard cellular and molecular biology techniques (e.g. transductions, immunoprecipitation, flow cytometry, functional assays, western blot, qRT-PCR)

  • Ability to design, conduct, analyze, troubleshoot, and document experiments independently.

  • Demonstrated scholarly achievement through publications, presentations, awards, or significant research contributions.

  • Strong written and oral scientific communication, and collaboration skills

  • Interest or experience in mentoring undergraduate students.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience in studies of the tumor immune microenvironment and/or tumor-stroma interactions. 

  • Experience in breast cancer biology. 

  • Experience with mouse tumor models, including mammary gland inoculation and metastasis assays.

  • Experience preparing manuscripts, abstracts, fellowship applications, or grant proposals.
