Job Summary
Our team at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral fellow with a strong background in molecular biology, cell biology and neuroscience to join our multidisciplinary research team.
Our laboratory research studies the molecular and cellular mechanisms that control neuronal identity, glial plasticity, neural regeneration and neurodegeneration. A major focus of our work is developing strategies to promote neural regeneration in the retina and brain. Current projects include Muller glia-mediated retinal regeneration, astrocyte-to-neuron reprogramming, transcriptional regulation of neuronal cell fate, and development of gene- and cell-based approaches for neurodegenerative diseases.
We combine molecular and cellular biology, mouse and zebrafish genetics, viral vectors, single-cell genomics, high-throughput screening, imaging and computational approaches. The successful candidate will have substantial freedom to develop innovative projects and will be strongly supported in developing an independent research program. Required Qualifications*
Candidates should have a M.D./Ph.D., in neuroscience, molecular biology, cell biology, developmental
biology or a related field. We are particularly interested in candidates with:
- Strong expertise in molecular biology and neuroscience
- A strong publication record demonstrating research productivity and scientific rigor
- Ability to independently design, execute, analyze and communicate research
- Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
Desired Qualifications*
- Experience in neural development, glial biology, immunology, genomics, or gene therapy is highly desirable
Experience with animal models (mice or zebrafish) and visual research is highly desirable.
