Job Summary
The Department of Psychiatry is seeking a Research Area Specialist Intermediate - Research Coordinator to coordinate research and program activities for several digital contingency management and digital health human subjects clinical trials and quality improvement initiatives. Research activities primarily involve populations affected by alcohol use disorder (AUD), opioid use disorder (OUD), substance use disorder (SUD), and/or tobacco use. Depending on the study and its scope, this position may independently coordinate moderately complex research activities or support a Project Manager or other Research or Program Coordinators in the coordination of larger or more complex studies. Responsibilities may include participant recruitment, retention, and follow-up; community engagement; IRB and other regulatory activities; reporting and purchasing; and guidance and training for research staff.
The Research Coordinator works collaboratively with internal teams, clinical partners, community organizations, funders, participants, and external partners to support the successful implementation of study and quality improvement activities. The position ensures assigned research and program activities are conducted efficiently and in accordance with approved protocols, organizational requirements, and funding expectations. Duties and level of responsibility may vary by project and may evolve over time to meet changing program and organizational needs.
Responsibilities*
RESEARCH COORDINATION & STUDY OPERATIONS
- Coordinates moderately complex human subjects clinical trials and quality improvement activities, independently or in support of Project Managers and other Research or Program Coordinators.
- Coordinates participant recruitment, retention, follow-up, study procedures, and troubleshooting.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT & STAKEHOLDER COORDINATION
- Leads or supports community engagement and coordinates communication with community partners, clinical partners, participants, funders, and internal stakeholders.
REGULATORY, REPORTING & QUALITY
- Coordinates IRB applications and amendments, study documentation, reporting, and quality assurance activities.
STAFF GUIDANCE & TRAINING
- Provides functional guidance and training to research assistants and other study staff on recruitment, follow-up, qualitative interviewing, and other study procedures; may assume formal supervisory responsibilities as the role evolves.
PURCHASING & TECHNOLOGY
- Coordinates research purchasing and works with technology vendors to address study needs and troubleshoot systems.
Required Qualifications*
- 4 to 5 years related experience.
- A Bachelor degree in a recognized field of science or learning which is directly related to the duties of the position.
- Experience working with Redcap, EnrollNow (Ripple), Qualtrics, MiChart, Data Direct, Microsoft Office.
- Experience in behavioral health research with human subjects
- Experience working with participants with tobacco use, alcohol use disorders and/or other substance use.
- Reliable transportation and the ability to commute to the North Ann Arbor office for study-related activities.
Desired Qualifications*
- Master's degree in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, psychology, health informatics, risk management, or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams with competing priorities and multiple stakeholders.
- Experience with digital health interventions, mobile health applications, contingency management platforms, and technology-enabled behavioral health research.
- Expertise in remote research study recruitment and follow-up methodology

Modes of Work

Work Schedule
M-F 9 am to 5 pm. May require non-traditional hours as needed to meet study or program needs.
Work Locations
This is a hybrid position with weekly in-person requirements at an one of Michigan Medicine's offsite campus locations in Ann Arbor, MI.
Background Screening
