The Department of Statistics is a diverse and vibrant intellectual community dedicated to excellence through research and teaching. The unit is home to two undergraduate programs and three graduate programs. As part of the Student Services team, you will join a fast-paced office that focuses on the student experience. Job Summary

The Career Services Coordinator supports master's and undergraduate student career exploration through career development events, practical learning opportunities, alumni relations, and employer partnerships. This role collaborates with undergraduate and graduate program coordinators and faculty leadership to offer professional development programming, career events, and practical training opportunities that promote student success and engagement. 

Responsibilities*

Career Programming and Communications (30%):

  • Serve as the project lead and key point of contact for employer engagement and career related programming including Industry Day 
  • Organize employer informational sessions throughout the academic year
  • Coordinate professional development workshops focused on topics including resume writing, LinkedIn profiles, interview skills, networking, and internship/job search strategies. 
  • In collaboration with the Publicity and Event Coordinator, promote career services and student success initiatives through newsletters, website content, slide decks, flyers, social media posts, and other outreach materials. 
  • Partner with department staff and faculty to develop content and cadence for career related content postings on LinkedIn.

Career Counseling and Development (30%)

  • Guide students through job and internship search processes
  • Assist with job market preparation including resume writing and review, interview preparation, networking, and strategies for navigating language barriers.
  • In collaboration with the Publicity and Event Coordinator, develop and refresh program marketing materials, develop and manage program website content, and leverage social media platforms.
  • Hold regular office hours to advise, guide and navigate career planning services.

Alumni Engagement and Outreach (20%)

  • Promote departmental career related programs and events to alumni audiences. 
  • Develop alumni spotlight features to highlight career pathways, professional accomplishments, and engagement opportunities. 
  • In collaboration with the Publicity and Event Coordinator, create student spotlight features showcasing successful internship experiences, research participation, and career development achievements. 
  • Support ongoing alumni-student engagement through communications, events, and storytelling.
  • Ensure communications are accurate, timely, engaging, and aligned with departmental priorities and branding. 
  • Act as a primary point person for project-related questions, issues, and stakeholder communications.

Strategic Partnerships (10%)

  • Establish and enhance partnerships with key industry partners and organizations aligned with the undergraduate and master's programs focus areas.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with alumni, the University Career Center, and other University of Michigan career networks, including participation in CSN meetings. 
  • Actively extend the department's career services and internship network

Data Management (5%)

  • Enter, maintain, and verify data for the Rackham Career Outcomes Report. 
  • Track student participation, project completion, employer engagement, event attendance, and other relevant program metrics. 
  • Prepare reports and summaries to support assessment, planning, and continuous improvement of career and experiential learning initiatives.
  • Oversee the design and upkeep of a comprehensive career services database.
  • Regularly assess the specific career service needs of the students within MAS/MDS/UG programs.

Professional Development (5%)

  • Teamwork, training and professional development
  • Serve on departmental committees

Required Qualifications*

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree (or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience) plus 3+ years of experience coordinating career services, employer and alumni relations or a closely related field. 
  • Relationship Building & Collaboration: Proven ability to network, build professional partnerships, and collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, alumni, employers, and campus partners. 
  • Data, Tech, & Administrative Operations: Strong technical proficiency (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, web editing, database tools and statistical software) with demonstrated experience building the tools and databases required for evidence-based decision-making and integrating technology into service delivery.
  • Project Management & Communication: Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with a track record of managing competing priorities, detail-oriented administrative tasks, and independent decision-making. 

Desired Qualifications*

  • Advanced Degree & Student Support: Master's or graduate degree in the sciences (or equivalent education/experience) with a strong background supporting undergraduate and graduate student success.
  • Extended Career Services & Event Execution: 5+ years of experience coordinating student career services programs, including large-scale events such as career fairs, symposiums, employer panels, and professional development workshops.
  • Marketing & Digital Communications: Demonstrated experience with multi-channel communication materials including newsletters, web content, social media, flyers, and slide decks. 
  • Systems, Assessment & Compliance: Proficiency with career platforms (e.g., 12twenty) and institutional tools, alongside knowledge of student outcome tracking, internship reporting, FERPA compliance, and familiarity with UM/LSA systems and resources. 

Modes of Work

Onsite - position requires a fully onsite presence.
