Who We Are
Michigan Ross' Detroit Neighborhood Entrepreneurs Project (DNEP) is the University of Michigan's small business hub for Detroit entrepreneurs. Through this 10 year old program, supervised U-M students gain transformational experience working as professional service providers for Detroit entrepreneurs. DNEP is the only university-based business support organization in the country that provides multidisciplinary services to build the organizational spine of local businesses, deploying 130 students per year to provide high-touch financial, legal, technological, and data services to 350 entrepreneurs annually, at no cost to the businesses. In August 2027, DNEP will move into its new home in the U-M Center for Innovation in Detroit, where it will anchor the Detroit Small Business Innovation & Learning Hub (the Hub). DNEP is part of a well-connected Detroit entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Job Summary
The Managing Director of the Detroit Neighborhood Entrepreneurs Project (DNEP) is a trusted, entrepreneurially grounded leader who sets the strategic direction for DNEP and is responsible for its fundraising, financial and people management, communications, and program administration. The ideal candidate has operated a small business and is familiar with Detroit's entrepreneurial ecosystem, so that Detroit business owners, community partners, and funders see them as a credible peer from day one. The Managing Director works closely with faculty, staff, and students from multiple schools and with many Detroit partners to advance DNEP's mission of providing students with transformational education and building self-reliant businesses.
